The original Gtek was the first Eclipse marker to bare the now-iconic Gamma Core drivetrain. Efficient. Smooth. Quiet. Gentle on even the most fragile paint. And reliable beyond comprehension. From frozen wastelands to scorched earth deserts the Gamma Core delivers all of its potential, all of the time. So the decision to continue with the Gamma Core in this, the Second Generation of Gtek was a simple one. A no-brainer. But that didn't mean the rest of the marker wouldn't see a serious overhaul. The 170R combines a raft of advanced features to bring the Gtek line bang up to date.

WITH ITS BLADE-LIKE LINES, THE GTEK170R IS A TOOL SHARPENED AND READY TO PERFORM AT ANY LEVEL.

The main focus has been achieving a completely hoseless version of the Gtek, while still retaining simplicity of assembly and of course, reliability. This has been achieved by placing the brand new inline regulator directly adjacent to the new POPS assembly, in the base of the frame, moving the battery into the foregrip, and mounting the solenoid inside the frame, rather than mounting to the bottom of the body. Even the new breech sensor system, that utilizes prismatic light pipes to guide the infrared light through the breech, is attached to the frame. This means that all critical components are now housed within the frame, simplifying the design, and making maintenance and break down far quicker and easier. Adding to the simplicity of the package, the 170R also includes toolless access to the eye covers, detent, battery and of course the drivetrain and bolt. These all go to make the 170R incredibly simple to clean and maintain. A pleasure to live with both on and off the field.

POWERED BY THE GROUND-BREAKING GAMMA CORE SPOOL DRIVETRAIN THE GTEK170R CAN GO TOE-TO-TOE WITH ANY OPPONENT, ON ANY BATTLEFIELD, IN ANY CLIMATE.

But of course, there is more to the 170R than just reliability and simplicity. The 170R also comes fully accessorised with a range of features that you would expect to find on a marker of this quality and pedigree.

There is an OLED display with shot counter, game timer, Rate of Fire indicator and a whole array of tournament specification firing modes. There's the latest Eclipse lowrise clamping feed. Shaft5 threaded 2-piece 14.5" barrel. POPS ASA. And of course, full metal construction designed to give the 170R super sleek looks and that featherweight feel that makes the 170R just so nice to play with.

THE GTEK170R HOSELESS AIR TRANSFER SYSTEM AND TOOLLESS ACCESS POINTS MAKES IT A DREAM TO SHOOT AND A BREEZE TO MAINTAIN.

Whether it's the low recoil keeping your aim on point and target in your sights shot after shot or it's quiet sound signature keeping you concealed from the enemy as you stealth yourself through the undergrowth, the 170R offers something for every player and every style of play. Efficiency. Reliability. Simplicity. It has it all. It's a marker destined to become the choice for every serious player.

A nice durable non flashy field watch.
Color: Olive/Gunmetal, Color: Olive/Gunmetal
A nice looking, none flashy field watch. At 41mm it’s not too big and not too small. The sapphire crystal is a big plus on scratch resistance; and the screw in crown is a nice addition as well. If you’re looking for a low key, reliable solar powered field watch that is both comfortable, affordable and has durability built into it, this one will be hard to beat.

Keeps lousy time
Color: Silver-Tone/Black
I purchased this watch off Amazon Warehouse well below MSRP out of curiosity to see what Timex is doing in 2024. The specs are good - bead blasted stainless case, solar movement with quick set date and hacking, sapphire crystal, screwdown crown and 100m water resistance. The movement is Japanese, case and bracelet are made in China, and the watch is assembled somewhere overseas. The good - the watch is lightweight and comfortable on the wrist. Price, even at full MSRP makes this an extremely good value for what you get. It is a good looking Flieger style watch. Once fully charged it is keeping good time. Case finish is well executed and without rough or sharp edges. The bad - the lume is weak. When blasted with UV, it fades quickly and within 5 minutes it’s gone. The bracelet is low end, but expected at this price point. I swapped it out with a nice leather strap from my collection with better quality spring bars and it makes the watch look and feel higher end. The Ugly - the second hand misses nearly all the chapter ring marks. The minute and hour hands are aligned, but that second hand seems to have a mind of its own. On my watch it lines up with chapter ring marks maybe 10% of the time, but it’s not consistent. Sum up, for a sub $200 watch the specs are great and it’s a good looking comfortable watch. Just keep your expectations aligned with what you are paying for. It compares favorably to Orients & Citizens at this price, and offers better value than comparable competitors now that Seiko has gone upmarket. I like this watch. Just don’t compare it to a Swiss watch costing several times its price. Update after a few months: I’m changing my rating to 3 stars. This watch keeps lousy time! It is loosing around 5 minutes per month. And it is fully charged. I have other Solar quartz watches from Citizen, Seiko and Vaer which maintain very good accuracy. But this Timex … defeats the purpose of a solar powered “grab and go” watch when you have to correct the time each occurrence you want to wear it.

Great Watch with Great Sapphire Crystal
Color: Olive/Gunmetal
Waited 2.5 years before reviewing. I love the gunmetal grey case, olive dial, and the exceptional sapphire crystal. The watch is still running great. During cold weather when wearing long sleeves, I make sure I charge the watch monthly by placing it under a table lamp for many hours because it died once due to no daylight charging. One problem is being able to see the minute markings. (The same watch with blue dial is much easier to read.) I also replaced the military-style band immediately with the excellent Archer 20mm Olive band (ARC-QRN-OLV20) and Archer 20mm Matte Gunmetal buckle ( ARC-BKL-GRYM20). I am only allowed to review once for this Timex model, so adding comments about the "Blue" version (TW2V03600JR). The blue version is the same watch but easier to view. It looks GREAT with the Archer 20mm Navy Blue band (ARC-QRN-NVY20).

I design flaw caused me to return it.
Color: Brown/Blue
Pros: - Perfect case size. - Sapphire crystal. - Solar powered quartz. - Large dial face - Minute and second hands reach to minute track for precise reading. - Great field watch design and proportions. - Effective lume on hands. Cons: - Lume on small triangular hour markers is useless, and fades quickly. - The hour numbers are not luminous. - The dull peach color chosen for the hour markers, numbers and hands in dim lighting is very dull and thus hard to read. - The dark blue color chosen for the dial is a dull hue that doesn’t really look blue, but just reduces the contrast between text and markers. - A black dial and bright white markers and numbers would make the watch much more legible/ readable, and would look much better aesthetically. It is a shame that these choices were made on an otherwise perfect design. - I was really excited that Timex finally seemed to get it when they came out with this series of models, but then they handicapped it with a dial that is only useable in bright light. What a shame. I am returning the watch.

Great Watch!
Color: Black/Silver-Tone
I bought this watch after the resin strap on my old Armitron watch broke. I was disappointed to find that armitron doesn't make my old watch anymore, so I had to find a replacement. I did extensive research and finally settled on this watch. I needed a rugged, waterproof, backlit, time-and-date + day of week watch. I also needed a watch with a durable strap, because the resin strap sport watches only last 2 or 3 years, which is how long I had my old one. I love the mid-size design of this watch. It fits well and looks really cool. I bought a used like-new one because it was cheaper and it arrived in perfect condition, just without the instructions or original packaging. It is easy to set, easy to read, and the backlighting is just the right brightness. Setting it accurately is tricky, but I've developed my own system to only be one second off, if that. The band is slightly itchy, but it should break in. Overall, I love my new watch and I'm happy that I found something that can take a beating and still work!
