Description:
When it debuted in 1985, the Hotshot made an immediate impact as Tamiya’s first shaft-driven 4WD R/C buggy, boasting an aggressive body style and a low center of gravity. Its distinctive 3-piece chassis incorporated several forward-thinking features for its time, including front and rear mono-shock oil dampers, a 4-wheel double wishbone suspension with stabilizers, and fully enclosed gearboxes equipped with thrust ball bearings and differential gears. A wide selection of dedicated option parts soon followed, cementing the Hotshot as a dream machine for young enthusiasts of the era. After years of anticipation, Tamiya has revived this iconic model so fans can relive the excitement of their early R/C experiences.
For the re-release, Tamiya updated many components to modern standards while preserving the spirit and appearance of the original. The front and rear double wishbone suspension and adjustable mono-shock dampers remain, but the drivetrain now uses modern dog bone-style propeller shafts for improved durability. The oil dampers have also been updated to contemporary diaphragm-type units. Additionally, since today’s ESCs eliminate the need for the original rear aluminum heat sink, a dummy version is included to maintain the Hotshot’s classic silhouette. Take this refreshed Hotshot for a run and compare it with modern R/C buggies to truly appreciate how far the hobby has evolved over the decades.
