Reconstructing the View: The Grand Canyon Photographs of Mark Klett and Byron WolfeUsing landscape photography to reflect on broader notions of culture, the passage of time, and the construction of perception, photographers Mark Klett and Byron Wolfe spent five years exploring the Grand Canyon for their most recent project, Reconstructing the View. Using landscape photography to reflect on broader notions of culture, the passage of time, and the construction of perception, photographers Mark Klett and Byron Wolfe spent five years exploring the Grand Canyon for their most recent project, Reconstructing the View. The team's landscape photographs are based on the practice of rephotography, in which they identify sites of historic photographs and make new photographs of those precise locations. Klett and Wolfe referenced a wealth of images of the canyon, ranging from historical photographs and drawings by William Bell and William Henry Holmes, to well-known artworks by Edward Weston and Ansel Adams, and from souvenir postcards to contemporary digital images drawn from Flickr. The pair then employed digital postproduction methods to bring the original images into dialogue with their own. The result is this stunning volume, illustrated with a wealth of full-color illustrations that attest to the role photographers--both anonymous and great--have played in picturing American places.

Rebecca Senf's compelling essay traces the photographers' process and methodology, conveying the complexity of their collaboration. Stephen J. Pyne provides a conceptual framework for understanding the history of the canyon, offering an overview of its discovery by Europeans and its subsequent treatment in writing, photography, and graphic arts.

Hybrid polo shirt -- very comfortable
This seems to be a kind of "go anywhere, do anything" shirt that almost succeeds on every count. The fabric is quite thin and very stretchy--the same kind of fabric as a lightweight workout shirt. Definitely not a pique knit polo, or even a sturdy t-shirt knit. The collar is fabric, not ribbed. The quality of construction seems good. The fit is generous. I'm 6'1", 185 lbs, 33" waist and 42R jacket, and this shirt I'm wearing is a Medium. It's still quite loose all over. Could've even perhaps gone with a Small, certainly with this amount of stretch in the material, and it still wouldn't have hugged the body. This shirt design is most comfortable on me with only the top button undone. It can be worn with the top button done up (see pic) but the collar does tend to fold a bit when you wear it like that. The collar fabric isn't quite firm enough to hold its shape. Two buttons undone (see the other pic) is also an option, and that makes for a pretty wide collar. The shirt body is definitely long enough to wear tucked in for the golf course or office, but not so long (on me, at least) that it can't be left untucked for less formal occasions. And it must be a "luxury" shirt because the tape on the outside of the plastic box says so!

Excellent value, not too short
My husband is 5'11" and 200 pounds and typically wears a Large or X-Large (leaning more toward X-Large for waist, upper arms, and length). Based on the size chart, we got this in 2XL, and it fits perfectly. He has a long torso and likes to tuck in this style shirt, so length is often an issue, but not with this shirt. It is just the right length. It fits well around his chest, waist, and arms, too - just the right amount of looseness without looking sloppy. The fabric is not cotton; it is that sport material. It's just okay. We got the black, and it is like a heathered black or a super dark heathered gray. It almost looks like it has little metallic flecks in the photos, but in person, it doesn't look that way. Don't worry about it being flashy! He would never usually wear a 2XL, so I would say these run small and to size up 1-2 from your usual size. Most of all, though, follow the provided size chart.
