How to install Cisco 512GB Persistent Memory Module

Installing the Cisco 512GB Persistent Memory Module is straightforward in compatible Cisco server environments. Follow these general steps to ensure proper seating, detection, and configuration, while always consulting your server’s official maintenance guidelines and firmware requirements.

Before you begin, power down the server, unplug it from power sources, and discharge static electricity. Prepare a clean workspace and have an anti-static strap if available.

1) Open the server chassis and locate the memory slots that support persistent memory modules. Verify the slot type and slide rules in your server’s maintenance manual to confirm compatibility with DIMM-style modules.

2) Align the module with the slot notches and the notch orientation specified by Cisco for persistent memory modules. Gently but firmly insert the module straight into the slot, ensuring even contact across the connectors.

3) Apply even pressure until you hear or feel a secure click indicating the module is seated correctly. Do not twist or force the module, as improper seating can cause damage or misalignment.

4) Reassemble any components you removed and close the chassis. Reconnect power and boot the server. Enter the system BIOS/UEFI during startup to verify that the persistent memory module is detected by the firmware.

5) In the BIOS/UEFI, configure the memory mode as required by your workloads. Persistent memory can be used in various configurations, such as a memory tier or direct-access persistent storage, depending on your software stack and operating environment. Save settings and exit the BIOS/UEFI, then proceed to the operating system initialization.

6) Once the server boots, install or verify required drivers and firmware updates from Cisco or the platform vendor. Run a basic memory validation test to confirm that the module operates correctly under typical load conditions. Monitor for any firmware warnings or BIOS messages related to persistent memory and address them as needed.

7) If you deploy application software that benefits from persistent memory, configure the software to utilize the non-volatile memory tier. This may involve enabling specific persistent memory features in the operating system, setting policies for memory allocation, or using applications that support memory-first or app-direct usage patterns.

8) Establish a maintenance plan that includes firmware updates, memory health checks, and periodic performance assessments. Regularly review event logs, error counters, and thermal readings to maintain optimal performance and ensure long-term reliability of the Cisco persistent memory solution.

Note: Always follow your organization’s change management procedures when performing hardware upgrades. If you are unsure about compatibility with your server model or the recommended BIOS settings, consult Cisco support or your hardware vendor’s documentation for model-specific guidance. Proper installation and configuration are critical to achieving the expected performance and persistence benefits of the 512GB persistent memory module.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What is persistent memory, and how does it differ from traditional DRAM? A persistent memory is a non-volatile memory that retains data after power is removed, combining high-speed memory access with data persistence. Unlike conventional DRAM, which loses data when power is cut, persistent memory allows for faster recovery and helps simplify data preservation across outages while still delivering strong performance for active workloads.
  • Q: Is the Cisco 512GB Persistent Memory Module compatible with all Cisco servers? A: The module is designed to integrate with Cisco server platforms that support persistent memory technology and related firmware. Always verify compatibility with your specific Cisco server model, firmware version, and memory topology before purchase or installation.
  • Q: How does this module impact performance for databases and in-memory workloads? A: By providing a large, non-volatile memory tier close to the processor, persistent memory reduces data access latency, lowers I/O bottlenecks, and accelerates in-memory operations. This results in faster query responses, improved transaction throughput, and enhanced real-time analytics capabilities.
  • Q: What workloads benefit most from persistent memory? A: In-memory databases, real-time analytics, AI and ML inference pipelines, large-scale virtualization, caching layers, and applications requiring fast recovery after power loss typically see the greatest gains from persistent memory.
  • Q: How should I configure persistent memory in the BIOS/UEFI? A: Configuration depends on your workload and operating system. Common options include memory mode (where persistent memory acts as an extension of memory) and app-direct mode (where software explicitly manages persistent memory). Consult your server’s documentation and software guides to select the appropriate mode, then validate with a memory health check after enabling persistence.

Great Mineral Facial Sunscreen
Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This is the best mineral facial sunscreen I’ve used. It comes out as a thin lotion that spreads easily. I have used two other brands and considered a brand that was expensive before trying this. I liked baby bum mineral 50 sunscreen lotion for the body and decided to give this a try. I like sun bum products. They tend to make effective products that are not too expensive. The zinc oxide mineral facial sunscreen I was using slightly irritated my skin and felt heavy like a mask after applying. It left a greasy residue on my face. This sun bum facial mineral sunscreen is non-irritating and feels very light like a chemical-based facial sunscreen. It leaves no residue on the skin. I prefer zinc oxide mineral sunscreen because it’s natural, safe and effective. Some zinc oxide mineral sunscreens put a white caste on the skin after application. The titanium dioxide and zinc oxide blended mineral sunscreens are worse due to the titanium dioxide. Titanium dioxide is a bright-white powdered substance, and I have not experienced any product with this ingredient that doesn’t appear white on the skin and cannot be blended. This sun bum zinc oxide mineral facial sunscreen has no white caste. Like another reviewer, I also hope that sun bum continues to make this facial mineral sunscreen indefinitely. It’s the best I’ve ever tried and at an excellent price point. If you like mineral sunscreens due to the health and environmental concerns with chemical-based sunscreens, try this before trying more expensive mineral facial sunscreens.

Great sheer mineral sunscreen!
Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I’ve never been a mineral sunscreen fan but I really love this one. I needed a mineral sunscreen for days where I knew I was going to be sweating or swimming because the chemical stuff would run into my eyes and burn so bad. This one doesn’t burn my eyes at all. It doesn’t leave a white cast but it is a little oily and leaves me quite shiny for about 10-15 mins until it fully dries. I don’t really mind because it works well. I would definitely recommend 👌

It's okay. Better for dry skin.
Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
It's a nice product but still too greasy for my poor skin. It's pretty moisturizing. It isnt thick, but my skin gets greasy quickly with it. (I prefer Australian Gold tinted (the big tube meant for the body, not face).
