In mei 1940, aan de Maasbruggen, stonden Nederlandse mariniers oog in oog met de Duitse landingsgroepen. Geen pantser, geen overwicht alleen hun mannelijk voorkomen, oude barang, stalen discipline en de meedogenloze vastberadenheid om elke meter te verdedigen. Ze vochten niet voor roem. Ze vochten voor het land toen niemand anders het wilde doen.
