RÉSUMÉ: Dans l’Espagne des années 1950, Estrella, une jeune fille de huit ans, vit avec ses parents au nord du pays, dans une maison appelée “La Mouette”. Son père, Agustín Arenas, médecin taciturne et mystérieux, radiesthésiste à ses heures, est originaire du sud de l’Espagne, région qu'il n'évoque jamais. Intriguée par ses silences, Estrella grandit en essayant de percer le mystère qui entoure la jeunesse et les blessures passées de cet homme qu’elle admire profondément.

À PROPOS DU FILM: El Sur réalisé par Victor Erice en 1983, inspiré du récit de son épouse, Adelaïda García Morales, est souvent considéré comme un chef-d’œuvre du cinéma espagnol servi par des acteurs tels que Omero Antonutti (Padre padrone) et Lola Cardona (Attache-moi !). Poétique, introspectif et visuellement splendide, le film est une méditation délicate sur le passé et l’absence, le silence familial et les non-dits. Présenté en sélection officielle à Cannes, le film a disparu des écrans français et est présenté pour la première fois en haute définition en France.
