Soon after the introduction of cocksfoot to Banks Peninsula in the mid-19th century, Akaroa cocksfoot grass seed conquered the market - first in New Zealand, then in Australia, and finally in Europe. At the height of the industry, Akaroa cocksfoot was one of the most significant industries in Canterbury, with annual earnings for Banks Peninsula of more than $10 million per annum. It was responsible for the loss of almost all the Peninsula's unmillable forest. And yet, a generation or two later, the Akaroa cocksfoot seed industry has almost entirely disappeared. More than a century after the industry reached its peak, Vaughan Wood celebrates its remarkable story. The history of Akaroa cocksfoot is one that embodies many facets of Canterbury life: the farmers and harvesters, the seed merchants, and the engineering and transport firms. It was shaped by the science, politics and world-trade patterns of the time and is thus a story with more than just local interest, This fascinating narrative includes: * The history of the Akaroa cocksfoot seed industry, from the introduction of cocksfoot seed into New Zealand, through the start of its international success in the early 1880s and its peak around the turn of the 20th century, to the end of the industry in the 1950s and 1960s. * A detailed look at the industry in its heyday, following the journey taken by the seed from the growing crop to the traded commodity. * Recognition of the lasting legacy Akaroa cocksfoot has left on both the landscape and the local seed industry in New Zealand.

Puppy and price approved!
Style: Latex Surpise Color, Size: 6"
Great cheap little dog toys! Our 11 month large breed 90lb puppy loves to toss these around and squeak them between his teeth.. they eventually break down but that’s okay, at the low price of a couple to a few dollars each they make it affordable. They put some stuffing inside so it makes it slippery when our pup is nibbling on it. Funny enough these last longer than much more expensive toys that claim more durability! In 8 months we’ve gone through 2. That’s pretty good! Not chew resistant, but the latex offers a texture and squeak that I find makes our puppy go easier on them. Cute and easily packable.

My two Labradors make quick work of these. They love them. But Not very durable. Stuffing everywhere.

Our dog loves them
Style: Latex Surpise Color, Size: 6"
Not for every type of dog, but our dog LOVES these things. Try one and see how it goes. They are cheap, so no great loss if your dog doesn't like it, But if it does, you'll have a great time with them. Best $3 I could spend

Tie a Knot in it if it rips
Style: Plush Surprise Color, Size: 6", Style: Plush Surprise Color, Size: 6"
My puppy split the middle belly seam in about 5 minutes of spirited play with the white foam and squeak assembly scattered about, but he loves these loofa toys - goes nuts for them. Went through a couple of the little $3 ones so I tried this big one which he ripped apart. But I tied a knot in the middle of it over the ripped part and guess what, it's better than before. He loves the whipping the big knot around. The part where it ripped was where they filled it I think but the rest of the stitching is really quite solid. Takes a beating, to a point. The little ones lasted a reasonable time before they were totally played.

Not the most durable, but my dog LOVES it.
Style: Plush Surprise Color, Size: 24"
My boyfriend’s dog had the small version from Petsmart and she has been very gentle with it since she likes it so much. I decided to surprise her with this 24 inch one for Christmas. She was obsessed! It’s cute, it’s very soft, and has a big squeaker in the top, which she loves! She was a little more tough on it and it did get some rips 12 hours in, but it is still in one piece at the moment and brings lots of joy. The dog is a medium/large size.
Dog toys can be so expensive. I personally think the was a great price despite not being the most durable. I may purchase again next year!
